Clothing Field Trip Ideas

Visit a laundromat, tailor/seamstress shop, or clothing store on a field trip to learn more about different types of clothes, how to make them, or how to care for them.

My Favorite Play

Go to a park and let the children play on their favorite equipment, or with their favorite balls or sand toys. Later discuss what their favorites were at the park.

Picking Berries

Find a u-pick farm or some wild berry bushes to pick berries from. Talk about the type of berries you pick, where and how they grow.

Going On A Picnic

Go to a local park for a picnic. You can have the children help make the lunches to bring along. Play on the play equipment, if available, and/or bring balls, bubble, kites, bikes, scooters, helmets, etc.

Sports Visit

Visit a sports stadium or field, a tennis court, a health or fitness club, a swimming pool, or a sports facility at a local high school or college. Learn more about what types of sports are played there and the equipment and facilities used to play them.

Visiting Numbers Around Us

Visit a grocery store, bank, clock shop, etc. Point out the usage of numbers in money, time, etc, and inform the guide that you are learning about numbers so he/she can point them out as well.

Garden Helping Worms

Go on a field trip to a farm or a garden store. Ask the guide to explain how the part worms play in gardening and farming.

Magnetic Walk

Give each child a magnet and go on a magnet walk around the house/school to see what the magnet will stick to. WARNING: stay away from electronics (computers, televisions, calculator, cell phones, cameras, etc.)

Tree Trips

Go on a nature walk in a forest, visit a tree farm, or visit a nursery. Look at and have someone teach about different types of trees and their different parts.

Texture Field Trip Ideas

Ideas to learn about textures on a field trip:
Bakery- textures of the types of bread before and after baking;
Hair Salon-textures of hair (curly, straight, crispy, stiff, soft, wet, dry, etc.);
Fabric Store- fabric textures;
Zoo- talk about and feel different textures of animal coverings

Mechanic Shop

Visit a mechanic shop and see the cars lifted up high, maybe watch them rotate the tires or do some other repair.

Taxi

Invite a Taxi driver to visit and show the different features of a taxi.

Ocean Field Trip Ideas

Take a field trip to the aquarium, the beach or go on a boat ride on the ocean. Talk about the water, waves, sand and all the living things in and by the water.

Finding Feelings

Go to a puppet show or a play. Have the children watch how the actors or puppets portray the different emotions of each character. Encourage them to reenact some of the emotions they watched during the show.

Fire Station Visit

Visit a fire station or police station on a field trip, or have a firefighter or police officer visit and talk about what they do to help people be safe, their equipment tools and what we can do to be safe and help to prevent emergencies.

Safety Walk

Take a safety walk in your neighborhood. Talk about obeying traffic lights, crosswalks and signs when walking along and crossing the street. Point out special hazards to the children.

Visiting a Nursing Home

Arrange to visit a nursing home. Let the children interact and build friendships with elderly friends. You may want to come prepared for the children to share a song, skit, story, art project or cards, or something special to them, like their teddy bear.

Hair Salon

Visit a hair salon to observe a person’s hair being cut. Help the children notice the different scissors and brushes that are used. Have the stylist explain how they use each of them.

Visiting Pets

Attend a pet show, visit a veterinarians office, pet store or pet groomer.
Observe, touch and listen to the different types of animals that people adopt as pets. If you go to a pet store, make sure to browse through the section of different types of pet foods.

Candle Making

Invite someone to visit and demonstrate how to make candles, or take a field trip to a craft center so the children can watch candles being made.
